Sports is pure beauty. They offer everything: rivalries; competition; drama; grit- man, you name it. Sports also allows the greatest competitive creatures roaming Earth to put their greatness on full display. Sports allows true warriors to amaze the masses. Warriors who test reality and make the common viewer wonder- what are they made out of? What planet are they from? I have asked those questions several times in my lifetime as a sports lover. Reggie Bush's Heisman year at USC. Baby LeBron single handily defeating the Pistons. Steph Curry's heatwave. Of course- Randy Moss on Thanksgiving. So many epic figures that had you so amazed, you questioned reality. Ya remember MVP D-Rose? He seemed like an alien Point God in that season. Now we insert Jimmy Butler: who seems like a clone; or a Jimmy Butler that was given Compound V.
Jimmy Butler in the 2023 NBA Playoffs is one of the most badass competitors, basketball has ever seen. Butler is in a final boss level; type mode right now & doesn't give a damn about whoever wants to stone up and challenge him. Literally- he doesn't care. Butler won't budge. You actually are just making him more dangerous. Giving him more energy. Adding more power to his meter as he prepares to hit his finisher. Grant Williams; sir; I am speaking to you:
Grant- I love your game & intentions. Never back down attitude. True competitor. You belong, no doubt. But big dog, you are making a grave mistake in this particular turn. Oh, man. Like you may as well put the V needle in JB, yourself with those actions. Sheeeeit (Senator Clay Davis voice). I respected Butcher goin' all out to "try" and beat Homelander- but he lost. Grant going all out towards JB will be a losing battle. This Butler is just different. The attitude; grit; and more importantly- the play. Compound V JB wants the C's head & wants that ring.
I showed his numbers through round 1 on the "Best Performers" Blog, last week. Unreal he was. JB had a more laxed and comfy slayin' in the Conference Semis versus the Knicks as he dropped to just 24.6 PPG. Butler's scoring may have returned back to Earth- but he kept the same tenacity and demeanor which took over the flow and momentum shifts in the series when his team needed it the most. JB gets his comrades going. Rather its sparkin' a run or barkin' them up like a War leader. The Knicks just couldn't keep up with the Butler led Heat. They couldn't match the Heat's energy. JB is the nucleus to the team. The heart; the grit; and the soul that makes them up. His teammates feed off his energy and elevate their game. The Brian Dawkins or Ray Lewis of the NBA from a leader standpoint. This is special to watch.
Butler brought his round 1 smoke to the Eastern Conference Finals (GM 1-2) against Boston. Which needed to happen as Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are hungry for a title too. JB got back to business as he netted 35 and put a stranglehold on Boston's playmakers, causing 6 steals on defense. You bet your a** he was gettin' his chirp on in the process. A needed measure as he got Bam Adebayo to step up to his capability with the confidence sucking Al Horford in the mix for the C's. Flawless road performance to snag Game 1 in Boston. That was the warmup for Butler in the Semis as he marched back into The Garden with even more brass. Yup- he took some V for this one.
JB was all ova the place in Game 2 as Jayson Tatum tried to fight off his impact. Butler added another 3 steals as well as 2 blocks in Game 2 as he put the clamps down on Jaylen Brown. Celtics kept at 'em. Staying in it as they tried to slow down JB and take the flow of the game. The problem is they attempted to take the flow in the worse way possible. You saw it above- Grant Williams went out on a sword to help elevate his C's and failed miserably. Butler went OFF. So did the rest of the Heat as they went on a 24-9 run to take BOTH games in Boston:
Grant! I gotta ask... why'd ya do it my man? Why did you poke the damn bear that is Compound V JB. I get the motive to steal the momentum and pump up your comrades. But, you chose the wrong one my guy. You could have chirped Bam. You could have chirped Lowry. You could have chirped any of them! So you chose the one man that will bite your head off! Confidence turned into stupidity. That sure backfired, huh. At least Grant didn't go all Dillon Brooks and run from the smoke:
You have to respect that. I respect that a lot. I am a fan of Grant, now. But consider this the "go back home before you die" part. You don't do that sh** again if you want to realistically taste The Finals. I would take a different assignment and matchup as well. If Boston wants to win then you tell Marcus Smart to go full out Ron Artest and elbow JB to start a brawl and have Butler suspended. Cause pokin' and chirpin' Compound V JB is going to land ya on a flight to Cabo. Don't poke Butler. Don't you dare. Tread lightly in Miami.
Can the Celtics bounce back in Miami, tonight? Do they have what it takes to take out Compound V JB and send his Heat packin'? I won't count them totally out- but I for one will be placing all my chips on Jimmy Butler.
