It is now March 8th & Khabib Nurmagomedov is sitting on his "retirement" couch still holding the Lightweight championship. What a f'n joke! The best division in the UFC... the best division of any promotion on the planet is being held up by Dana White. Why? Because he can't get over the fact his undefeated pound for pound is done fighting. Dana is having trouble letting go, well its time to f'n move on.
This division is the deepest with 8 immediate contenders and 6 of them with their elite clocks running low. The fighters are impatient and so are we. Dustin Poirier should be the champion or the belt needs to be stripped immediately and you set up a vacant title match between Poirier and Charles Oliveira, and set a tournament ladder for the other 6 to find the next #1 contender. Sitting there like a jacka** and praying on Khabib to come back is preposterous. Khabib is a man of his word, if he says he isn't coming back, he isn't coming back. Plus, if he were to come back, it would be for a legacy fight as he had already pointed at. This belt should no longer be involved with Khabib, you are wasting primes and giving a guy like McGregor a reason to high tail it, he is not going to just wait and neither will Poirier.
This situation is not a Frank Mir or Jon Jones type of situation. Khabib isn't hurt, he did not fail a drug test & I'm sure he hasn't snorted up anything... this is silly. McGregor was stripped immediately when Dana thought he would hold up divisions, but Khabib is stroking that gold in his Dagestan tub... cmon! You have a whole new Khabib in the division with Khabib's protégé; Islam Makhachev... go drool over him or something. Stop the hold up! Strip him and set up a epic run of matches, the wait is ova- get 'er done Dana!
