The offseason blockbuster that shook the NBA was Houston dishing PG Russell Westbrook to D.C. for PG John Wall. I was genuinely surprised actually. Houston completely went into a overhaul. Westbrook was unhappy, rather it was Houston or Harden. He wanted out after only one season with the Rockets. He is the first MVP winner to be traded in multiple off-seasons. The hype was real when the Beard & Russ reunited. Then they get bounced by the Lakers in the semifinals and all these things come out then boom- Morley is gone, Westbrook is traded & now James Harden is hittin' the club more than practice and wants to be traded. What happened? How did it go spiral so quickly.
The Oklahoma City days were crazy. With a trio of Durant, Westbrook & Harden they were poised to reach championship gold. It never happened. Durant and Harden wanted out and left quick. Giving Russ his glory until he couldn't win alone. Then comes the reunion. Westbrook is traded to the Rockets to join The Beard in hopes to finally win the West. Both guys had good All-Star seasons. Then the Lakers send them packin' quick and all of a sudden it all falls down.
Rockets sent shockwaves with a PG swap with the Wizards getting John Wall in exchange for Westbrook. They also got a 1st rounder in 2023. Rockets trading for Wall gets him out as wished, it pairs him back with college teammate DeMarcus Cousins & it actually gives them a more complete lineup for Harden in terms. Westbrook benefits the Wizards greatly, I think it will also make Bradley Beal better.
Westbrook had noted that the main reasons for wanting out is because of the "laid back culture" in Houston and tardiness. Many reports have said that the two just didn't want to play with each other anymore. I think Russ just wanted the hell out of Houston like everyone else has. The reports now with Harden being late and being able to show on his own time was a problem with Russ. I can see how he is lazy despite his incredible shooting. The guy can go to the damn club all night and next day go off for a forty point triple-double, It's f'n crazy. But he doesn't play defense. That's no cap. Russ had to play off the ball more with Harden. He declined greatly because of it.
The trade in my opinion is a win-win. Houston had a unhappy Westbrook and instead of creating chaos, they traded for a excellent player to replace him and got a 1st rounder. Wall has played good in Houston. So far the Rockets are 3-5. But, Wall and Harden have been playing good and Christian Wood has been awesome. I think they just need some time to put it all together. Washington on the other hand is 3-8, but Beal has been scoring at will and as predicted is playing awesome with Russ. Problem is the other 11 guys are struggling for the Wizards. Russ is much more happy in Washington morale wise & is still putting up just under a averaged triple-double.
Harden has been requesting a trade out of Houston since, well really the Westbrook trade. Or since they starting bitchin' that he was at the club to much. I can't keep up anymore. His relationship is odd and dramatic with the Rockets. But he is playing, so who the hell knows how that will pan out. I will say, I don't see either one of theses guys winning a ring. Especially without joining a super-trio. We shall see.
