In honor of the Padre’s Spanish announce team; Taaaaa... Taaaa... TATIS!
Gentlemen & ladies, Fernando Tatis Jr. is the new face of baseball. His electric, charismatic & elite play has skyrocketed his stock to the top attraction in baseball. The man is giving the league Steph Curry vibes. People want to watch him play... and why? The swagger. There is levels to this. In today's day, the world loves swagger, I know it's not just me. The bat-flips, the passion, the dancing, the hype & just doing boss sh**, it's what we want to watch. Steph' Curry changed the game of basketball in the NBA with his shooting & most importantly with swagger and confidence. People tuned into the Warriors' games no matter what other event was on & no matter the score of the game. People now want to see what Tatis Jr. will do next. They want to see him play. They want to watch the swagger and charismatic love for the sport. While the fans want the swagger... the league NEEDS the swagger.
Before some of you hardcore baseball fans lose your wits about Tatis Jr. being the "Face" over Mike Trout... I don't believe Fernando is a better all-around player than Trout; not yet at least. Tatis' swagger, love for the sport, "cockiness" (confidence) & electric play pushes him well past Trout as the face of the league. Those points push him well past anyone as the top attraction going for MLB right now. Seeing him smash moon shots and stutter-steppin' before reaching third is must watch TV. Fernando rakes, steals bases with ease, cellys & he talks the sh**… he is what we want as spectators. Oh and to those who don't like this man because he launched a moonshot, 3-0 up big with the bases juiced... you can go get stung by a bee.
I was a HUGE baseball guy back in the time when they had players after players. Attractions after attractions. But the game got slow and the character throughout the league got dimmed, which caused my interest to halt harshly. I started to only watch the post-season, and even then it wasn't the whole series... just the big games or elimination games. The sport got boring, slow & stale. New player safety rules, especially the ones installed after the Buster Posey injury, made the game less interesting to many viewers including myself. Now I see myself regaining that interest... that love again. It's all due to the new superstars like Bo Bichette, Ronald Acuna Jr. & Juan Soto. Even those great phenoms can't measure up to the fast growing legend of Fernando Tatis Jr.
The Dominican phenom is taking over the league at just 22 years old, and gives me mad Ken Griffey Jr. vibes again. The Kid! Tatis though? Man... Fernando is on a whole other stratosphere in my mind. He's making poppa proud just like Griffey made his. He did so even more in his epic three-game series in LA this past weekend. He smashed 5 big flys in full throughout the series. Two of those homers came on the anniversary of his father's epic night, when senior hit two grand slams in the same inning at Dodger Stadium on April 23rd, 1999. Junior wanted to pop off on his father’s special day too, as he launched two moonshots over the fence off former CY Young; Clayton Kershaw. Fernando did what is becoming to be a trademark of his; the Tatis stutter-step, as he sparked his team with roars and give himself GOKU level confidence going into his battle with another ace in Trevor Bauer.
Fernando was on an agenda, and he followed through by smashing two more big flys off another former CY Young in Bauer and gave the ace some sweet revenge from Spring Training with the "one eye" celly as he did his jog around the bases. Watch his five home runs below and make sure to appreciate his stutter-step approaching third, the smooth bat-flips and the McGregor strut... YES he even does the McGregor strut:
How in the blue hell can you not like that young man... that SUPERSTAR? The dude is a box-office hit. Fernando is must watch tv. I loved Carlos Gomez, when he played. I loved his attitude. Tatis has that similar energy and attitude. That similar love for competition. I love it. The sport needs to be fun again. It needs guys like Fernando.
Tatis' numbers with the Padres— a .296/.370/.587 line with 46 home runs, 31 stolen bases and 7.7 rWAR in 158 some games is crazy. The dude is ONLY 22 years old. Fernando is an all-around player... he has speed, fielding & mega power. Those three quick traits when mixed with his charisma and swagger, makes him the face of baseball and one of the top superstar athletes on the planet. Twitter talks about Tatis. The seats at Petco Park talks Tatis. The money coming into MLB... talks Tatis. Fernando is a big baller & gives the Padres their first true superstar since the great Tony Gwynn. Tatis Jr. is a generational star which forced San Diego to give out the third richest contract in the sport's history. I'd say every dime of it as of now has been worth it. San Diego has themselves the face of baseball... and that's A FACT. Keep sendin' long balls over the fence and keep flippin' that bat in the sky baby. You have our approval.
