The NL Wild Card race is straight up noise. Diving into September, things are close and tight. O'Connor and Toretto type of close. In the past week or so, the final Wild Card spot has been a constant back and forth swap between the Reds; Marlins; and now the pole leader D-backs. Here is how things fair going into another important weekend on the diamond:
The Giants ended August with a 12-15 record and now have lost six in a row to start September. They have completely sh** the bed, but still have a chance in this thing. Giants need to stop the losing, and will be spending some time on their knees praying for the other three to lose. Giants don't play any of the final spot contenders besides a two game set against the Diamondbacks. They are treading in tough waters. They need to show some grit if they want to play in October.
It's a triple-threat bloodbath between the Reds; Marlins; and D-backs. Neither club seems like they will quit. Like the MC battle across the San Joaquin Valley, the battle for the final spot is going to be relentless. All three teams have faced significant losing skids in the second half of play. They all went on a five game or more losing streak in August, with the D-backs losing nine in a row to start. Despite losing, neither club will fold. They get themselves off the dirt and back on the track with authority. Such acts have made this race exciting to watch. Makes you feel that you have no idea how to predict the finish with how it's become a rollercoaster ride.
Cincy has the easiest remaining schedule of the three. Going 4-3 against the Cubs and Mariners wasn't perfect, but the four wins are huge going into this final stretch. The only current playoff contender they play, is the Twins in three. Reds are looking to take advantage of their "safe haven" on the schedule while Miami and Arizona have much more difficult remaining schedules with the Marlins having the hardest. They travel on the road to Philadelphia and Milwaukee, then welcome the Braves at home. The lures are out in the water, time to evade.
Marlins taking two of three from the Dodgers was huge before they hit that road trip (starting tonight). With the series dub over the mighty Dodgers, which followed a four game sweep (Washington), they are in the best spot as a team to conquer the road trip. Eyes are on the action in Philly this weekend as the Marlins look to hit the Snakes into the wall and out of first place.
Fast and furious race is ready to hit the final laps. The intrigue in the air is at an all-time high. This weekend is the first of three final laps until that white flag is flyin'. The four teams fighting for that final spot has to have a win only mindset for each game. Can't lose any remaining series mindset. Buckle up baseball fans, the noise is going to get LOUD.
