The fall is near, and we already have some key headlines across the basketball world that has us ready to start the flame to another NBA season. Hoop-Scoop time with an agenda of new NBA rules; more Lillard drama; and failure spiced with chirpin' that led the King to get on the phone to form a team of basketball Avengers. Scoop time.
A small storm of controversy hit a couple of weeks ago when Olympic Sprinter, Noah Lyles, spoke shame out of the blue towards NBA players and the Larry O'Brien trophy. Many players across the league responded to the comments, and spoke out publicly regarding them. This is what Lyles had to say:
A small part of me had an understanding of what Lyles was trying to get at. The timing and approach was a simple act of gaining relevancy, plan and simple. Most people didn't even know the cat prior to him rattling the cages of the NBA world. Not sure why he felt the urge to attack them, but it worked.
Are the Olympians feelin' like they don't get enough stage light or love? Since the 1992 switch, the Summer Games are now celebrated during the first year of an Olympiad with the Winter Games being held in the third year, giving a good absence for spectators to see Olympic athletes perform. I'm not sure if that is his gripe or not. Noah spoke with a very shallow mind in this instance. Especially regarding today's NBA. I need a quick rant.
Today's NBA is a portal for the best basketball players in the WORLD to join and compete in. The NBA draft sees talent from around the world jump opportunities in their homelands to take the brave jump to earn an opportunity in the NBA. Talent that takes up lottery picks and the 1st round. The San Antonio Spurs built a dynasty off global stars and look to do so again. Arguably the two best players in the NBA, in Doncic and Jokic, come from over seas, and are the two best players on the planet. The NBA's best show up every Summer Games to prove their country is superior, NBA or not. The US have 16 of the 20 Gold medals in this century, and take the stage from the other games, every Olympics. The NBA Finals is more competitive than the Olympic games for our best. Silly, man.
I am glad he chirped his nonsense, because now the King is awoken. After Team USA's fourth place finish in the FIBA tournament, LeBron James has announced that he plans to return to the Olympics and Team USA for the 2024 Paris games. James last played, and won gold, on the 2012 team at the London Olympics with Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. Now he vows to return for one last rodeo- and is calling in his team of Avengers to help him conquer.
Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker; and more are ready to join the King in battle. Oh mister Lyles, you woke an army. The other countries are pullin' their lashes as they have flashbacks of LeBron going full out NBA Street for the whole world's eyes:
NBA board of governors unanimously voted Wednesday to approve tougher resting policy rules and punishments for star players who sit out games- including those on national TV and in-season tournaments.
It’s not a surprise that the NBA is taking this step while negotiating a new national television deal, one of the complaints of broadcast partners is scheduling what should be a star-studded game only to have the household names not be on the hardwood. The rule prohibits teams from resting star players in the same game. Yes, there is a criteria on what defines a "star":
For example, the Suns can't rest Kevin Durant and Devin Booker in the same night. I love it. Too many TV-games were blowouts or just weren't entertaining to watch. The rule puts more importance on the 82 game season and allows there to be a reduced number of games that are unwatchable. With the rest rule, the MVP qualification requires a player play in at least 65 games. I have Paul George and Kawhi Leonard pictured in the graphic, as the rule change will certainly effect the Clippers the most. Los Angeles needs to focus more on their training staff than resting techniques. Good job by Adam Silver, this should improve the season in a whole.
I am getting real tired of this crap with James Harden and Damian Lillard. Just a 33 and a 34 year old, entitled millennials, being millennials. It's their way or the highway. James Harden is a delusional mark, and Damian Lillard is an entitled head case. Why negotiate?
Both the Blazers and 76ers need to stop caring about the players and their agent's opinions at this stage of the drama. Lillard telling the Blazers that he HAS to be traded to Miami, and if they trade him anywhere else then he won't show to their camp nor play for that team. The cat has helped win only four playoff series since 2012, making the Conference Finals only once (they got swept), and he thinks he runs the ship? No, the front office runs the future of the franchise. The Blazers need to stop being idiots and do what's right for the organization- to hell what Lillard wants. Straight up.
I don't want to hear that Lillard's antics hurt the Blazers' trade talks. Dame is playing a game. Poutin' and orderin' to make sure he gets his way. It's too late for that, pimp. You really think Lillard is just going to end his career and not play for a team? Get real with it. Teams will take the bait, hands down. That's why they are still dialin'. Blazers need to be smart and make a deal with another team to get the most for Lillard. Who cares where he wants to go. Business is business, cha heard. Oh and for Harden? Just waive his a**!
