It's Bug Season

Bug season is here and is off to an unbearable start. Rather a home in well over 40 states; my house; or on the gridiron- the bugs from stink to injury are givin' off painful impact.

The NFL world continues to be struck with injuries, week in, and week out. In the past ten days, we have seen several high quality players, including three of the game's best names from both sides of the ball go down to the nasty injury bug. We need to spray somethin' in the air to get all these bugs on outta here, cha heard.

Jets losing Aaron Rodgers leaves major impact in New York, obviously. That was just the start of things. Several teams got hit with major blows losing defensive leaders; locker-room anchors; and vocal on-the-field generals. By 'losing' I mean out for the season in some cases. Detroit lost their vocal; gritty; and razor-edged safety, C.J. Gardner-Johnson- a brutal reality for CJGJ as this was his prove it year for a sizable contract. The Cowboys just lost star corner Trevon Diggs to an ACL tear today. East to West coast- it's non stop.

Pittsburgh and Carolina felt similar damage as the Steelers lost defensive heartbeat Cam Heyward and the Panthers lost linebacker Shaq Thompson to the IR. These are crucial injuries we are seeing off the bat. Not only are we seeing a vast quantity of injuries, but also extremely impactful injuries. The Browns offense losing Chubb. The Cowboys secondary losing Trevon Diggs. So impactful. Trevon Diggs tearin' his ACL during a practice is an absolute garbage of a reality. Even if you hate the Cowboys, seein' an All-Pro caliber player lose their season in that way is awful and terrible for football. A huge blow for a defense that looked to be on pace to have one of the most dominate campaigns in history. Just a shame.

This will certainly ruffle some feathers: the running-backs start to the season is provin' their value talks to be empty cases as injuries begin to pile up and slow starts set the mood.

Look, the injuries are awful. Nick Chubb's injury is never one we wish to see. Especially for Chubb, considering his track record having that same knee be ripped up years back. Just gutting for him and his career. Saquon Barkley is now out a few weeks on top of Chubb's news. Austin Ekeler; Derrick Henry; Aaron Jones; and David Montgomery are all banged up and could miss some time. It just isn't lookin' good seeing all these running-backs get injured. It will hurt any reality of them gettin' the long term deals that they want to sign.

The injuries are one thing, for Josh Jacobs it's production. Jacobs wanted to come out the gates fast and furious. Instead, through 2 games he has rushed for only 46 yards on 28 carries with a 1.6 average on the ground. The cat had -2 yards rushing in Week 2 and wants to be paid $16 million a year... yeah, and I want to be batman.

Christian McCaffrey is on his normal tear... but he's really the only back in the league who has had major impact for their squads in both weeks thus far in the season. McCaffrey proves why the 'Niners emptied their pockets for him and his value. The other running-backs have to step up and prove their cases- outside of twitter fingers and media interviews. Injuries are one thing, still a thing unfortunately, but lack of production is just unacceptable.

I sincerely hope the injuries can slow down. Each team has a list of names on the daily injury report, it's quite depressin'. You know my stance on the turf/grass debacle, but the training staffs have to step up too. Get the players to do more stretchin' rather than "quick warmups"- get on the bikes during game breaks. Stop lettin' players play so much video games (ha). In all seriousness, the training staffs need to sharpen up. Injuries suck, and so do stink bugs!
