What happened to Major League Baseball allowing "The Kids to Play"? Apparently that message was strictly for commercial use and not actually a message applied on the field and to the players.
Major League Baseball continued their bullshit on Monday when the league announced a two-game suspension for Reds outfielder Nick Castellanos for showing excitement and a little trash-talk against the Cardinals on Saturday. The Cardinals were offended, as they often are, so the benches cleared as Castellanos calmly spoke with Yadier Molina and walked away. The scream and flex after Castellanos slid into home was in retaliation from Cardinals pitcher Jake Woodford hitting Castellanos with a pitch earlier in the inning. Castellanos wasn’t too pleased with that, so when he scored as Woodford tried to cover the plate, Castellanos decided to talk some smack in the form of that scream and flex, and I, like most baseball fans; absolutely loved it.

Nick did nothing wrong, he showed some excitement to give his team some adrenaline and he shot up the fun and hype for the game. Nick never took it to another level, he did his peace and walked away, it was the cry baby Cardinals (go figure) that created the delay and silly bench clear. I like Yadier Molina, always have, but sometimes he needs to stick his nose out of sh**. Molina being offended in this situation is a joke and was more in the wrong than Castellanos. I'm sure Woodford has some hair underneath to handle the situation with Nick without having his big brother come in and help him.
Molina was definitely the one out of line but even his actions shouldn't have resulted in a two game suspension, but a two game suspension to Castellanos for a "flex"? Really? Come on MLB this sh** is ridic'. You are fining and suspending a player for celebrating and showing some personality and love for the game, all things the League has been pushing for to help grow the audience back to where it used to be, especially with the younger audience... the league is foolish.
MLB is completely inconsistent in its messaging. The "Let The Kids Play" campaign that promotes players celebrating and showing some flair and personality is all BS. It’s something MLB doesn’t truly believe in or embrace. And those commercials are simply a façade to act like the league understands what makes today’s game exciting and fun.
If MLB and commissioner Rob Manfred want to be taken seriously in their push to grow the game’s audience — younger, more diverse — then this stuff has to stop. It has to. Why would I watch baseball if they can't even show emotion and drive, might as well play tee-ball. And instead of punishing Castellanos, they need to punish Molina for running up behind Castellanos and grabbing him by the neck, a little more realistic of a fined action than doing a flex and shout after scoring a run. Get it together Major League Baseball, this sh** is silly.
