In the wild, an animal is willing to go any measure in order to survive. Willing to sacrifice anything for the desire of extending their lifespan, or even- sacrificing it all for the chance to be the apex at the top of the chain.
In rare occasions, do we see a collision at the very top of the food chain by multiple predators. In the rarest of occasions, do we see two of the chain's very elite create unity to take down the apex predator. Unity. Alliance. A pack- formed to the brink in order to protect their souls for an ultimate prize. Visualize a National Geographic phenomenon of a giant croc' uniting with a ferocious Lion in an attempt to eliminate the baddest and largest hippo around. Straight war. Now that ladies and gentlemen- is exactly the crazy sh** we are seeing on The Hardwood in the Round 2, Nuggets and Suns series! 2 on 1 warfare with two of the very elite going up against the baddest around- The Joker.
Kevin Durant and Devin Booker are puttin' Phoenix on their damn backs, as they desperately try to prevail against a Nikola Jokic; that is playing some of the best ball you will see. Back and fourth. Limb for limb. Blood for blood. All three of these cats are playing like they can't be stopped as their teammates go full on John Cena mode- ya just can't see them in the box score.
You think I am playing about D-Book & KD puttin' them fools on their backs? The 2-man pack has outscored the rest of their teammates 273 to 171 throughout 4 games. 102 more points than potentially 13 of their teammates! The Game 2 loss saw those fools only put up 28 points compared to KD & Book's 59. With their comrades failing & seeing Jokic begin creating his Thanos type form after posting 39/16/5 in Game 2- KD and Book knew they had to unify their elite talents in order to prevail and tie the series. The pack was formed- but that didn't startle Joker a bit. As he became aware that his spot is wanted- he flared his nostrils and dug his feet into the battlefield as he begged his challengers on. Setting up the beginning stages of the climax on this attack- the part of the fight that has the viewer on the edge of their seat.
D-Book struck all night long with his lights out mid-range game. Slashing the Nuggets and Joker left and right. Make. Make. Make. It was constant throughout the first half. Booker was scorching. His spacing is so elite. His mid-game? I can name very few in the past two decades that he isn't superior over. Kobe type of automatic- just without the flare. He looks robotic out there, man. Effortless it seems. Just as nice a visual as a flary Kobe finish. Poetry in motion his game 3 was. Durant was slow to join the fray- peepin' back as Book delivered the blows. KD started 1-8 from the field- but you know the slim reaper, he never loses his confidence. Gaining stride as he began to slash to buckets while hitting the daggers Phoenix needed. Durant added 39 points to the table to accompany Book's 47. Combining 86 was barely enough to prevail over Jokic and Murray. Jokic went 30/17/17! Unreal performance with no look passes; tenacious low post work; and excellent court spacing. Despite Jokic's elite performance (as advertised) & Jamal Murray's step up performance- the Nuggets couldn't stop the 2-man pack of KD and Booker. Jokic's 6 turnovers helped spread the wound.
Game 4 was a slobber knocker. Back and fourth affair with elite offense and electrifying chess type possessions. Jokic had a game of a lifetime offensively as he posted 53 points accompanied by 11 assists. He was relentless as he broke the scoring record by a Center in the playoffs. Murray was solid again for Jokic- but the 2-man pack was once again too good. Both superstars put up 36. They took control of the flow in the game's biggest moments. They had the hands on the wheel and didn't give the control up despite Jokic's relentless attack. When Booker is on- he is on. Suns win when Book is on. It was a big time series flip by Phoenix.
Now as we roll into Game 5- the series noise meter is at an all time high. This series is about to get real fun & interesting as Game 5 is a pivotal game for both teams to try and open a wound to gain advancement. Jokic won't slow down. We know the tier he is in right now. The vibe he is feelin'. We sure as hell know; that Book is GAME and KD is ready to keep on rockin' off his flames. So who prevails? Who steps up? Jokic wants the curtain call for Murray- going at the 2-man pack alone may be a losing battle without some backup. Let the fireworks begin, baby. It's going to be a HOT finish!
