All hail the new king! Francis Ngannou has captured the UFC Heavyweight Championship after a brutal knockout and an all-around, masterful performance against the heavyweight "GOAT"; Stipe Miocic. Ngannou's journey to the throne is unlike any other- all the hardships, all the sacrifices & all the barriers... he is now the 'baddest' man on the planet and a hero in the eyes of many.
Ngannou is the first UFC champion ever from Cameroon, he vowed his victory to the people from his hometown in Cameroon to see that life could be improved if one puts all their effort into improving their quality of life. Ngannou went from working in sand mines & living in poverty to a chilling immigration to Paris and now to the throne; f'n epic. Here is his Joe Rogan bit on the immigration barriers he broke (skip the first 2;35 of the random Chael banter):
Now Francis is the heavyweight champ, just incredible. Another thing that's incredible, was his performance and takedown defense/offense in his title dub against Stipe. Saying Francis' takedown defense improved is a understatement. We all know his power, but Stipe won the first fight off the takedowns and clinch control which made us all wonder if Francis would improve his takedown defense for the second fight, something I thought he had to do in order to have a chance on the scorecard if the fight went to a decision again. Well... he improved alright, I mean holy cow. Through the round and 50 seconds we saw Francis in the Octagon on Saturday, there isn't a heavyweight on the planet that would beat that form of the new king.
The speed, power & dominance he had on the ground and defending Stipe's takedown was impeccable. My jaw was on the floor when Francis put his stomach on Stipe's back and just threw bombs. I was hoping Ngannou would improve a little but I had no assumptions he would beat the living hell out of Miocic on the ground.
I mean wow, he looked like DC right there... that's f'n scary and had Jon Jones spittin' nonsense all night over it. Francis' performance was incredible and brought him home an extra 50K- no man on the planet was stopping Francis from conquering his moment, all the barriers, all the struggles; no one was taking his moment. UFC 260 was a night for the future for Dana White- Francis Ngannou is about to make him a lot of money.
The victory is a tale that the struggling people across Africa can learn from, praise, and use as motivation to conquer whatever their dreams show. Francis had his hometown in Cameroon full of cheer and awe as they saw him dethrone Stipe. I love seeing this.
Francis now becomes the third UFC champion to come out of Africa, joining two other men dominating their respected divisions.
Africa has some talent to say the least. Usman was even in Francis' corner on Saturday to watch his stunning 10th UFC knockout which is tied for the second-most in UFC heavyweight history behind Derrick Lewis (12). Ngannou is hands down the most dangerous knockout artist in the UFC and now after winning the throne from Miocic, “The Predator” gives Uncle Dana a mega attraction and a list of possible super fights. Now we sit and see who challenges the new king first, after seeing maybe some fear from Jon Jones, who tells who gets the challenge first. Jon Jones against Francis Ngannou is a MONEY match, what do you think; book it?
