The Arizona Cardinals have unretired the number 99 for JJ Watt and what a load of bull sh** that is! Straight up f'n hogwash, I'm hot... and no I didn't even know who Marshall Goldberg was before this whole nonsense but that isn't the point!
Who in the blue hell does JJ Watt think he is? That number has been retired since 1950... 1950 man. Only five players had their jersey retired & in the rafters for the Cardinals... a list that includes two War n 'Skin heroes- Pat Tillman & Marshall Goldberg. Goldberg's integrity and grit to play both sides of the ball in the NFL's "Ironman Era" had been hailed and momentarily immortalized until good ole JJ and his hummer that holds his ego come to town.
Before today I would have thought that if given this proposition, JJ would respectfully decline out of respect for Marshall's name (& number!) and well I don't know.. f'n tradition? Steve Largent's goofy ass let Rice take his retired number when Jerry joined Seattle... but that was on him. Stupid and weird, but that was on Steve. But Peyton Manning and JJ Watt are ego filled wankers for pulling these strings. The success they had in their careers with those jersey numbers, Peyton in Indianapolis (18) and JJ in Houston (99), were achievements they earned for those teams. Those teams have the opportunity to cherish and immortalize them for their success, but they have no right to join a different franchise and have a number unretired. That is some big league bull sh**. That's some sh** you'd expect from Aaron Rodgers but it doesn't mean it is to be allowed. Ya not Jackie Robinson.
For those who say "weLL thE FaMiLy saID"... ah hell no. Marshall Goldberg has passed, his daughter said "He (JJ) has my blessings, I'm sure my father would be more than delighted for him to carry it on". That's just cold and I feel like her "word" gives no right. It was he who wore that number... bled and sweat in it, not his daughter. I think this is ridiculous, shame on the Cardinals. Hocus Pocus ya asses to the Emmitt Smith curse, ya asked for it & don't forget you still have a Kliff Kingsbury.
